"If only I had known this earlier": Botox for headaches

Below is the beautiful and personal story of Kieka who tells how botulinum toxin (botox) is her salvation in fighting migraines. In the video, beauty expert Maaike Dorsteen, Dermatologist Gamze Piskin of SkinSensible and Kieka show how this treatment works.

" If only I had known this earlier...."
I have been a 'headache sufferer' for as long as I can remember, after puberty mostly hormonal and triggered by tension. But over the past seven years, unfortunately, there has also been ''Vestibular migraine' added. I am lucky that medication results in fewer attacks, as this is not the case for everyone. My neurologist advised me to try botox in addition to the medication, because if it doesn't work, it will wear off after three months. If it doesn't help, it doesn't hurt.

Botox is an approved migraine treatment. The involuntary tightening of muscles is one of the triggers of migraines. Since Botox is a muscle relaxant, treatment with it can provide relief. By now I can't live without it, what a lifesaver! I treat my frown, temples and occasionally my forehead too. "If only I had known this earlier..." it could have saved me many attacks, but luckily I know now! And now I never want to be without it again.

I immediately feel when it wears off again, because then I get twice as many migraine attacks and suffer from headaches. I keep a headache diary so I can clearly see when the headache increases again and when it decreases again, there is a clear link between this, just after a botox treatment and after +- 3 months. I feel relief and relaxation in my muscles after treatment after only 2-6 days. It is definitely worth a try, you don't know beforehand whether it will work and you will also have to find a balance in quantities and zones with the doctor. But if it does work as it did for me, it is a great gift to yourself.
