What is a chemical peel?
The chemical peel's active ingredients (mostly acids) remove dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal. As a result, the skin becomes more even, pigmentation spots diminish, pores and acne scars become less visible, and the skin renews and rejuvenates itself. Applying the right peel can improve your overall skin texture.
How does a peeling work?
The action of the chemical peel removes dead skin cells on the skin surface (epidermis), which is called exfoliation. In addition, cell division in the dermis (dermis) is stimulated. The production of elastin and collagen goes up and your skin renews itself. The thickness of your skin increases, while the thickness of the dead skin layers decreases. These processes improve various skin problems, such as acne, fine lines, pigmentation spots and uneven skin texture.
Types of peelings
AHA peeling
An AHA peel is a mild and shallow peel based on various fruit acids. Fruit acids remove (exfoliate) dead skin cells, leaving the skin looking fresher and more even. It is suitable for all skin types and there is hardly any recovery time after this light peeling. That is why it is also called the 'party peel'.
TCA peeling
A TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel is a medium-depth peel, which takes care of both removing dead skin cells on the skin surface (epidermis) and creating new cells in the dermis (dermis).
A TCA peel is suitable for all skin types, including thin and sensitive skin. This TCA peeling liquid slowly penetrates the skin, after which a controlled inflammatory process occurs and the top layer of the skin is shed. A TCA peel therefore has a downtime of about 5 days.
A TCA peel is effective for fine lines, large pores, sallow skin and pigmentation spots. Besides on the face, wonderful results can also be achieved with a TCA peel when applied to decollete and hands. Several treatments are usually needed for optimal results.

With a peel, it is often necessary to start preparations before treatment to make the treatment process safer and maximize results
Treatment
During the treatment, the skin is first cleansed and then the peel is applied in several layers until the desired depth is reached. The peel initiates an inflammatory process that makes your skin red and burning. This sounds unpleasant but is not experienced as painful in practice. After the peeling, a post-peel mask is applied. This is a cream that neutralises the peeling process. Within minutes, your skin is calm again. Leave this cream on until the next morning. An average treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes and may cause some discomfort.
After the treatment
After a peeling treatment, the skin is very fragile, so it is important to follow the aftercare instructions carefully. These are described in the aftercare brochure you will receive. After an AHA peeling, you can immediately resume your daily activities. After a TCA peeling, you should expect a longer downtime and the recovery process will take about 1 week in total.
Side effects
Common harmless side effects include slight swelling, an irritated (prickling), tightness and/or burning (hot) sensation. With an AHA (fruit acid) peel, this will subside after only a few hours. With a TCA, the swelling and redness will last longer. A few days after the treatment, the skin will start to peel and this can last 3 to 5 days. Result
After the recovery period, your new skin is visibly improved, smoother and glowing. A few weeks after treatment, we would like to see you again for a check-up and evaluation of the treatment result. A peel is usually repeated a few times for optimal results and then once every six months thereafter.

Does a peel hurt?
A chemical peel may cause some discomfort (burning sensation) during treatment. Care with post peel products minimises discomfort after treatment.
When can I resume my daily activities?
In principle, you can resume your activities immediately after a peel.
The effects of an exfoliating AHA peel are mild and the skin recovers after several hours.
The effects of a TCA peel are much stronger and last longer:
Day 1: The day after peeling, your skin feels dry but not much is visible yet (sometimes redness).
Day 2: Your skin feels tight and dry. Dark spots may be visible in the areas where there was pigment
