Q-Switched ND:YAG

Discover Pigment laser

A Q-Switched ND:YAG laser is an advanced laser for tattoo removal and for treating unwanted pigmentation spots, such as age spots and sun damage.

This technology works by emitting powerful pulses of light that specifically target the ink and pigment in the skin. The laser's high intensity causes the ink and pigment particles to break down quickly, allowing them to be naturally disposed of by the body

The treatment is suitable for different types of pigment and often delivers visible results after just a few sessions.

  • Effective for (deeper) pigmentation spots
  • Safely applicable for melasma and dark skin types
  • Also suitable for removing tattoos
  • Works without damaging the surrounding skin

More about Pigment laser

What is a Q-Switched ND:YAG pigment laser?
The Q-Switched ND:YAG pigment laser generates very short and powerful pulses of light that specifically target pigments and ink under the skin. It is known for its effectiveness in removing tattoos, pigmentation marks and other skin conditions.

How does a pigment laser work?
Using a handpiece, powerful laser pulses with a wavelength of 1064 nm are emitted. This energy is specifically absorbed by melanin in pigment spots or ink particles in tattooing, breaking it down into smaller particles. These particles are then naturally drained by the lymphatic system. The treatment is effective and does not affect the surrounding skin. Several treatments are usually required for the desired results.

Where does a pigment laser work?
A Q-Switched ND:YAG pigment laser is suitable for various pigment problems and tattoo removal. Most common indications are:

  • Dark pigmentation spots (such as age spots and melasma)
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Sun damage
  • Black tattoos

Pigment laser treatment

Consultation
During the consultation, the doctor or skin therapist will go through your wishes and corresponding treatment techniques with you in detail and advise you on the best way to achieve an effective result. You will also receive information on the realistic result to be expected, possible side effects and risks, and costs.

Before treatment
For 4 weeks before treatment, skin should not be exposed to direct sunlight, tanning beds and self-tanners. If exposed to UV radiation, protect the skin several times daily with SPF 50. If you are tanned anyway, it is better to wait a few weeks before the laser treatments.

Treatment
The settings of the pigment laser are matched to your skin type and indication. Your eyes are protected with special safety glasses. During treatment, the laser delivers controlled pulses to the skin. This process is accompanied by a loud tapping sound.

The treatment of pigment spots is generally well tolerated and does not usually require anaesthesia. Tattoo removal, on the other hand, is usually perceived as more painful. During tattoo treatment, a temporary white haze appears on the treated skin.

After the treatment, the skin can be cooled immediately with a cold pack to soothe any redness or heat.

After the treatment
After a pigment laser treatment, your skin is extra sensitive to sunlight. It is therefore important to protect your skin with a sunscreen with SPF 50 for at least four weeks. For optimal results, it is important to follow all the rules of life and advice in the aftercare leaflet.

We would like to see you back at the clinic at 4 weeks after a pigmentation treatment 8 weeks after a tattoo treatment for a check-up or repeat treatment.

Side effects
After treatment with the pigment laser, mild side effects may occur, such as a burning or warm feeling, slight swelling and redness.

Pigment spots may become temporarily darker or greyer in colour after treatment. These reactions are normal and usually disappear within 1 to 10 days.

Result
Treatment with a pigment laser provides smoother skin by removing unwanted pigment or tattoos.

  • Pigment
The first result is usually visible after about 4 weeks, when the body has broken down the treated pigment. The number of treatments depends on the colour, the darker the pigment the more treatments will be needed. Depending on the indication, an average of 2 to 5 treatments are needed for optimal results, with an interval of 4 weeks.
  • Tattoo
Treating tattoos requires between 5 to 10 treatments at an interval of about 8 weeks. The result depends on several factors; colour, depth, location and the age of the tattoo. It is possible that the tattoo cannot be completely removed and a slight haze may remain visible.
