Discover ND:YAG vascular laser
An ND:YAG vascular laser is an effective method for treating visible blood vessels and other vascular indications on the face and body.
The energy of the ND:YAG laser pulses is specifically absorbed by haemoglobin, making the treatment very suitable for treating blood vessels. The treatment delivers visible results after just a few sessions.
- Effective for red, purple and blue blood vessels
- Minimum recovery time
- No damage to surrounding skin
More about vascular laser
What is ND:YAG?
ND:YAG is an effective laser treatment using controlled laser beams with a wavelength of 1064 nanometres. This wavelength penetrates deep into the skin without damaging the skin surface. The laser's energy is specifically absorbed by haemoglobin (the red dye in the blood), making the treatment highly suitable for treating visible blood vessels and other vascular conditions.
How does ND:YAG work?
Using a handpiece, targeted light pulses are delivered to the visible vessels or other vascular indications. The resulting heat causes the vessel walls to contract. Subsequently, the treated vessels are broken down and cleared naturally by the body.
Where does ND:YAG work?
ND:YAG is suitable for various indications and is mainly applied to the face and on the legs. Settings are adjusted per indication. Among other things, it helps with:
- Superficial (leg) vessels
- Teleangiectasias
- Spider naevi (spider heads)
- Hemangiomas (strawberry spot)
- Venous lakes
- Senile angiomas (cherry warts)

Consultation
During the consultation, the doctor or skin therapist will go through your wishes and corresponding treatment techniques with you in detail and advise you on the best way to achieve an effective result. You will also receive information on the realistic result to be expected, possible side effects and risks, and costs.
Before treatment
For 4 weeks before treatment, the skin should not be directly exposed to direct sunlight, tanning beds or self-tanners. If exposed to UV radiation, protect the skin daily with SPF 50. If you are tanned anyway, prefer to wait a few more weeks before the laser treatments.
Treatment
In an ND:YAG treatment, settings are tailored to your skin type and indication. Before the treatment begins, your eyes are protected with special goggles. A cooling gel is then applied to the area to be treated. This gel ensures good light conduction and protects the skin.
During the treatment, controlled laser pulses are delivered to the skin. The energy from these pulses is absorbed by specific structures in the skin. The treatment is generally well tolerated and is often described as a warm feeling or small, warm pricks on the skin. After the treatment, the skin can be cooled immediately with a cold pack to soothe any redness or warmth.
After the treatment
After ND:YAG vascular treatment, the skin is extra sensitive to sunlight. It is therefore important to properly protect the skin with a sunscreen with SPF 50 for at least four weeks, reapplying it every two hours.
In treatments for vascular disorders, it is important not to drink alcohol, shower hot or use a sauna for the first 24 hours after treatment. These activities can dilate blood vessels, which may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
For optimal results, it is important to carefully follow the living rules and advice in the aftercare leaflet. Depending on the indications, we would like to see you back at the clinic after 4 to 12 weeks for a check-up or repeat treatment.
Side effects
After ND:YAG treatment, mild, temporary side effects may occur, such as a burning or warm feeling, slight swelling and redness. Sometimes, small bruises may also appear. These reactions are normal and usually disappear within 1 to 7 days.
Result
ND:YAG laser provides smoother skin by removing visible vessels or other vascular indications. First results are usually visible after 4 to 8 weeks, when the body has broken down the treated vessels. Several treatment sessions are usually needed for optimal results.
